Urgent appeal for blood donation, O+ and O-

The blood bank on Wednesday issued an urgent appeal for types O positive and O negative for a person with multiple injuries who urgently needs a transfusion.

Anyone who can help should go to their nearest blood donation centre.

Blood donation centres operate in all cities.

An official from the centre told the Cyprus Mail that reserves must be boosted as some incidents, such as the person with multiple injuries, can severely strain the available stock.

It is further complicated, he said, by the fact that O- patients can only receive blood from O- donors, a blood group which is rare in Cyprus.
