Group of women preying on the elderly, police warn

old woman

Police on Wednesday warned the public to be on alert following a recent incident where money was found to be missing after a woman was allowed into a home to use the bathroom.

In this instance, four women knocked on the door of an elderly woman in the Nicosia district and asked for old clothes. Once there, one of four asked to use the bathroom. After they had gone, the resident noticed a sum of money had been stolen.

The suspects are described as speaking in a Greek accent. Three are aged between 20 and 30 and the fourth, around 40, police added.

“The public is urged to be particularly alert and not to trust people they do not know. They should not let people they do not know into their homes, as suspicious individuals find different pretenses to trick residents and steal either money or valuables,” the statement added.

Any person who becomes aware of a similar incident should immediately notify police at the closest police station or the citizens’ help line on 1460.
