In total €20,000 was collected from the 5th Athienou rally with classic cars which will be donated to the municipality’s social welfare committee to help residents in need, it was announced Monday.

The rally was held on Sunday by the municipality under the auspices of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COE), in which 111 cars from all over Cyprus and abroad participated.

In an announcement by the Municipality of Athienou it is stated that the event “started and continues to be organised on the initiative of the family of the late Maria Theodorou” and had a charitable character this year.

“All contributions, which amounted to €20,002, were given to support the fund of the Social Welfare Committee of Athienou, to help Athenians in need”.

The route covered a distance of about 100 kilometres during which participants were invited to test themselves on three special precision routes, passing through Avdellero, Troullous, Kelia, Aradippou, Kalo Chorio, Ayia Anna, Psevdas, Mosfiloti, Sia, Alambra and Lympia.

The start was given at 9.45 am by Athienou mayor Kyriakos Kareklas in front of the Kallinikio Municipal Hall of Athienou and the finish started at noon in front of the Konstantinio Municipal Park of Athienou.

Several people rushed to admire the well-preserved classic cars, while the oldest car that participated in the race was a 1946 Chevrolet Fleetmaster, the announcement said.

As part of the event, the mayor announced that the next Athienou Historic Car Precision Race will take place on April 23, 2023.
