Alpha C.K. Art Gallery presents the latest solo exhibition by Cypriot sculptor Varvara Georgiou this month with a new series of ceramic sculptures titled Nature’s Rhythm.

This exhibition marks Georgiou’s first presentation in ten years. It presents her latest body of work which mainly consists of ceramic wall and floor sculptures. Hand-moulded ceramics in white and blue tones make up Nature’s Rhythm, some with abstract details, others more minimalist and in various forms and shapes. The art pieces “playfully move with intimacy and tension against light and shadows that morph into new formations,” organisers say.

The pieces include “ceramic forms,” they add, “invoking the movement of the waves, flocks of birds flying overhead, schools of fish sweeping in synchrony through deep blue sea. Sculptures inspired by the fins, tails and feathers, formed by the clay, a material used since ancient times in our homeland that bridges our history and tradition with the modern present.”

The exhibition has a charitable purpose as well. As part of Alpha’s ongoing support of the Miracle Babies Association, the gallery and the artist will donate a portion of the proceeds to them to support efforts to upgrade the neonatal intensive care unit at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia.
