A 50-year-old driver found to be over the alcohol limit received a 30-day jail term on Monday and was slapped with a three-month driving ban, along with five points on his licence.
Members of the road safety unit of the police stopped the 50-year-old for an alcohol test at 4:45pm on Saturday, which showed an initial reading of 139μg, far exceeding the permitted 22μg. A final reading found it to be 118μg.
Larnaca district court on Monday morning issued the sentence, stating that the 30-day jail term begins immediately.
