The Eco-School programme’s Green Flag award ceremony was held successfully on June 21, 2022, at Nicosia’s Hellenic Bank Head Office. The Green Flag was awarded to schools that had successfully completed three years in the scheme.

Eco-Schools is the largest global sustainable schools programme that begins in the classroom and expands to the community by engaging the next generation in action-based learning.

The programme is helmed by the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) and  Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports (MOEC), with the active support of Hellenic Bank.

Tuesday’s ceremony came under the auspices of Commissioner for the Environment Klelia Vasiliou.

Participants included, symbolically, the children of one kindergarten, while teachers from primary, secondary, special and private schools represented the 69 learning institutions awarded.

Press and Communications Officer Maria Pilidou welcomed participants on behalf of Hellenic and CYMEPA, while school inspectors Yiota Mylona and Antri Kontou delivered messages from MOEC. Finally, Programme Development and Management Officer Kyriakos Shiakallis addressed attendees on behalf of the Environment Commissioner. Each speaker expressed warm support for the programme, while congratulating all of its stakeholders.
