Music and films from around the world will soon arrive at Rialto Theatre as it prepares for July’s lively events programme. Evenings of outdoor film screenings, performances by local bands, playful music workshops and more are coming to Limassol.

Once again the SEK parking place will be transformed into an open-air stage that will host the Rialto Summer Cinema series and the 17th Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival this July. Starting the month’s outdoor screenings is the Danish film Another Round, on July 13 at 9pm. The film is about a group of friends, all high-school teachers, who decide to start drinking during the workday. They all embark on an experiment in order to prove that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world and diminishes our problems.

The film received the Best International Feature Film award at the 2021 Academy Awards, the Best Foreign Film Award at the 2021 Bafta & César Awards, and the Best Film Award at the 2020 European Film Awards. Just like all of the films screened this July at Rialto Theatre, Another Round will be in its original language with subtitles in English and Greek. Another five films will be screened until July 26 bringing productions from Sweden, France, Argentina, Spain, Cyprus, Greece and Italy.

The 17th Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival will open on July 17 with the Choral Crossroads 2022 performance where choral singers from Europe and the Arab world will unite their voices with choral singers from Cyprus. Choirs from Jordan, Lebanon, Greece and Cyprus will perform in different languages to present a homogeneous multicultural choir.

This will be followed by the Idaeon Project on July 21 with Vangelis Gettos, Hugo Enrique Olivos and Mimis Sandalis. The project’s musicians dive into the eternal cave of Cretan music drawing out original compositions that derive from the sounds of the Mediterranean Sea, and expand to flamenco, funk, prog rock, stoner and power metal. The trio will present for the first time their tunes in their finalised arrangements, which will be enriched with live video art specially created for its material.

Another four music performances are part of the festival and will be presented until July 28, wrapping it up with a colourful music fiesta with Afro-Brazilian samba sounds.
