Two arrested for illegal residence, employment

Police have made two arrests for illegal employment and residence, while labour inspectors issued six fines for undeclared work after checks in Paralimni and Derynia on Thursday evening.

In an announcement on Friday, police said that as part of a campaign to address illegal and undeclared work, authorities had checked 22 individuals in the two towns on Thursday. Two individuals, aged 25 and 26, were arrested for illegal employment and residence. Labour inspectors handed out fines of a total of €21,000 to six individuals for undeclared labour.

Earlier on Thursday, Famagusta district police found a woman, aged 44, to be working in violation of her residence permit, and arrested her. She and her 55-year-old employer were summoned to the police station, questioned and charged in writing police added.
