Right before the weekend arrives and the crowds leave the city for the beach, several exciting events are taking place to spice up the week. In Nicosia, music lovers and theatre and enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to.

Thursday evening at Evergreen Vegan & Vegetarian café-bar will offer Music to Drink Bourbon To. Local musician Andreas Koumis will perform an acoustic session covering songs by the likes of Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Gorillaz, Gnarls Barkley, Beirut, Pearl Jam, the Weeknd and more. The live music will begin at 9.30pm while the café-bar serves cocktails and plant-based bites from its kitchen.

Continuing the intimate live music nights is another gig in Agioi Omologites by a musical trio on Friday. The Melodies & Frets trio are organising a music night at the Lyssarides Foundation focusing on jazz. Traditional American jazz will sound in the evening as well as bossa nova from Brazil and timeless Greek songs in a swing mood. On stage, vocalist Chara Miller will be joined by guitarist Emilios Patsalides and double bassist Ioannis Karseras.

Also happening on Friday is the theatrical performance The New Reality Show which is a clown performance for adults. The show will take place at a new venue in Nicosia called Entos ton Technwn in the old town at 8.30pm and it is suitable for all regardless of language.

The performance is inspired by the new norms and life changes everyone has had to face in the last two years. Talking about the show, creators Yasemin Collective say: “The realities presented to us today might as well be part of a science-fiction scenario. The two meters of physical distance appear to be the perfect formula of love and care for our fellow human beings. The normalisation of the new ‘rules of contact’ inspires a performance whose main characters are two female Clowns who are trying to understand a New Reality in a world that doesn’t seem so familiar.

“The audience becomes witness to all that takes place during the sessions between the specialist and the sufferer. The ultimate goal is social acceptance, something that proves to be harder than expected. The immediacy and honesty that possesses the Art of the Clown turns the gaze of the public inwards, facing from a safe distance their own sensitivities, weaknesses, fiascos, failures, defects and hopes, that is to say, anything that makes them a Human.”
