Man arrested, admits to starting three fires

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with three fires which broke out on Tuesday, two in Alassa village and one in the industrial area of Agios Sylas, in Limassol district.

After testimony was given against the suspect, he was questioned by the police and admitted to starting the fires.

Police searched his car where three lighters were found and confiscated as evidence.

They said that they were notified about the first fire at 7.36am and the second at 7.52am, both in Alassa village, and the third at 9.14am which was in the industrial area of Ypsonas (Ayios Sylas).

Members of the fire service and the police went to the fires and extinguished two of them, with the third said to be under control.
