A 46-year-old man in Nicosia was fined €3000 after police and customs in Nicosia found duty free tobacco in his home and car, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Thursday.

It said that acting on a tip off, law enforcement had obtained court warrants to search the home and other premises belonging to the man late on Wednesday.

There they found 145 packets of cigarettes, 60 packs of heated tobacco products and a kilo of loose tobacco for which duty had not been paid, as they did not have the required labelling.

The man was taken into custody, paid a €3000 fine to customs and was released.
