Films, popcorn and drinks under the summer night sky! That’s what’s on at Rialto Theatre as it hosts another edition of its summer cinema series at the SEK parking place. Two European films will be screened in the second week of July, one from Denmark and one from France.

Arriving first on Wednesday and opening the summer film screenings is the Danish film Druk, known as Another Round in English. The 2020 film takes a look at a group of teachers, and four close friends, who decide to drink during working hours and maintain a light level of intoxication throughout the day. Their purpose is to prove that a slightly higher blood alcohol content opens the mind to the outside world, makes problems seem smaller, and increases creativity. The experiment will prove to be extremely successful for some, but not so much for others.

Another Round has won several awards including Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards, Best Foreign Film Award at the Bafta and César Awards, and the Best Film Award at the European Film Awards.

On Saturday, a film for the whole family will be screened about a young girl’s childhood and family. Petite Maman is a tribute to imagination and childhood friendship, being a film about love and healing wounds. The film premiered at Berlinale 2021 and won several awards at multiple festivals, including at San Sebastian and Stockholm International Film Festivals.

Screened in its original French, Petite Maman follows eight-year-old Nelly who has just lost her beloved grandmother and is helping her parents clean out her house. She explores the country house where her mother, Marion, was raised and the nearby forest where she built a treehouse. When her mother leaves the house, Nelly meets a young girl her age building a treehouse in the woods.
