Police sped to the scene where they found about 10 individuals damaging the vehicle which was on fire. On seeing the police, they fled in various directions. Two men — aged 19 and 21 — were arrested.

The fire service extinguished the fire however the car was completely destroyed. It was found to belong to a 21-year-old who police tracked down.

The car’s owner said that he had been in the area with seven or eight others when they were attacked by about 20 to 30 other people they did not know who he said had knives and pieces of wood.

They fled but saw some members of the other group strike the car with wood and stones and then set it on fire.
