Two lifeguards on duty where three-year-old drowned

Paphos police on Thursday said that there were two lifeguards on duty at the hotel swimming pool where the three year old girl drowned on Sunday.

Police spokesman Kyriacos Charalambous said they are continuing their investigation into the death with interviews with all individuals who can contribute to the investigation were called in at Paphos police station to give statements. Among them are the parents, doctors, nurses, hotel guests and employees.

Charalambous noted that the investigation will soon be completed, and the case file will be handed to the legal service.

He added that there were two lifeguards were present at the time of the incident on Sunday.

According to the forensic examination carried out by examiners Angkeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou, the three-year-old’s death was a result of drowning and she had no external injuries.

The autopsy took place on Tuesday noon at Paphos general hospital while the funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at Agios Filippos church in Latsia.
