Utility poles and irrigation hoses were damaged in a fire that broke out in the Psimolofou community on Saturday afternoon.

The fire broke out a few minutes before 3pm and also burned dry grass, olive trees and other trees outside the fenced area of a storage building in the Nicosia district.

There are “strong indications” that the fire was caused by agricultural burning, fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis said.

It was brought under control without any damage caused to the building.

Four fire engines from the Nicosia fire stations and four from the forestry department rushed to the scene.

Police were also on site to redirect traffic.

The causes of the fire will be investigated by the fire service in collaboration with the police, Kettis said.
