Twenty-three-year-old detained in Emba boat arson case

The Paphos district court issued a six-day detention order against a 23-year-old man arrested in connection with the arson of a boat.

According to police information, at around 2am last Friday, a fire broke out in a boat owned by a 57-year-old man, which was parked onshore in a field in Emba. Police and the fire service rushed to the scene and  the fire was extinguished. The fire caused extensive damage to the vessel.

From examinations carried out it was established that the fire had been set maliciously.

During the investigation evidence emerged against the 23-year-old suspect, who was located and arrested with a court warrant shortly before 6:30pm on Friday, and appeared before court where a six-day detention order against him was issued.

Allegations made by the 23-year-old are being investigated by Paphos CID in order to decide whether there is sufficient testimony against him or not.
