The health services are preparing to start offering the fourth coronavirus vaccine dose, deputy director of nursing services Evagoras Tambouris said on Friday as the Pfizer vaccine has already arrived in Cyprus.

He added that the new Moderna vaccine will arrive just before the end of the month.

After the recommendation of the national advisory committee on vaccinations at the health ministry and the approval by the cabinet expected next Wednesday, the 4th dose will be made available for all people over 30 years old.

“When it is approved by the council of ministers, we will proceed normally. We will see how we start the vaccinations. There is already a prevailing recommendation, which is to go by age and start from older age groups and move downwards, and include vulnerable groups,” he said.

Commenting on the numbers of people receiving a fourth dose to date, Tambouris said that approximately 37,000 have received it.

“The numbers are small due to the summer season. After the holidays, demand will start for all those that have put it off until now,” he said.

He said they expect to have a high demand for the fourth dose.
