Visions Fugitives piano recital

marianna georgiou

In the blink of an eye, October will be upon us. Event organisers and festival teams though have been working hard to prepare next month’s cultural agenda and it is looking to be as promising and packed as September’s. In Paphos, cultural venue Technopolis 20 will kick start the new month with music by presenting a local pianist.

The young and talented Marianna Georgiou will perform a unique recital at the Markideion Theatre, on Sunday, October 2, with works characterised by original approaches to rhythm and harmony. The evening’s programme will include challenging works by Prokofiev, Enescu, Messiaen, Scriabin, Gubaidulina, Ligeti, as well as the world première of Ryax by Christina Athinodorou, a work which unfolds in choreographic-like sequences of movements, gestures and sounds, inspired by the inter-temporal idea of flowing water.

This solo piano recital is not a first for Georgiou. After studying Piano Performance and Performance Practices in the UK, she returned to Cyprus and has since then often appeared in concerts and multidisciplinary projects around the country, and apart from the classical repertoire, she is interested in exploring contemporary piano creations. For autumn’s repertoire though, she will return to the legends of classical music and fill the Paphos theatre with their compositions.
