Days of red clay

red clay

Amongst September’s traditional events and celebrations comes a festival that honours red clay and specifically the ceramics of Kornos. On Sunday, the Community Council of Kornos organises the 10th Kornos Pottery Festival with the title Red Clay Days. The festival is part of the community’s effort to promote and preserve local cultural heritage and as such is putting together workshops, presentations and cultural events suitable for all.

Held at various spots in the village, the festival is an opportunity to meet the craftswomen of Kornos making traditional clay vessels, watch a live presentation of the area’s ttava recipe by well-known TV chef Chryso Lefou and enjoy a musical programme by Evi Kapatai with the participation of the Kornos Community Choir.

Apart from the activities on Sunday, several events will take place in the lead up to the festival. Between Monday and Friday, morning pottery and ceramics workshops for students will take place from 9am to 12pm. Then on Saturday, the 1st Pancyprian Cultural Conference will address the topic ‘Red clay pottery in Kornos’.

On Sunday, the official festival will take place at the Kornos pottery square from 6pm and besides the craftswomen, the TV chef and the choir, a photography exhibition will also be set up while numerous stalls will sell traditional products and ceramics. To end the event on a sweet note, kleftiko will be prepared for visitors to enjoy for €10 a plate.
