Man pleads guilty to causing bodily harm after shooting son

A 69-year-old man on Tuesday plead guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to his son, whom he shot in May during an appearance at Larnaca district court.

The incident took place on May 26 in Pyrga village in the Larnaca district, when the 69-year-old shot his 45-year-old son after an argument, injuring him on the shoulder.

The younger man was taken to Nicosia general hospital, where he underwent surgery, while his father was treated at Larnaca hospital for head injuries he sustained in the scuffle.

He then turned himself in at Kofinou police station where he was taken into custody.

The Larnaca district court on Tuesday referred the 69-year-old to a direct trial before the criminal court.

It also amended the man’s charges, replacing a premeditated murder charge with a charge of causing grievous bodily harm, which the he pleaded guilty to.

The man will remain in custody until October 4, when the court will announce his sentence.
