Police arrested a 41-year-old man who attempted to steal a car in Nicosia on Monday afternoon. An arrest warrant was pending against him for another case of theft, committed last May.

According to police statement, around 5:30 pm on Monday, an unknown man was reported as trying to break into a car in a parking lot. Members of the Ledra police station immediately went to the area, where they apprehended the man inside the vehicle.

Police searched the car and found various burglary tools and a car battery, for which the 41-year-old did not provide adequate explanation.

The 41-year-old was arrested for possession of an illegal item and burglary tools.

From background checks police later established that a judicial arrest warrant was pending against the 41-year-old, in connection with a case of theft committed in Nicosia on May 30.

A complaint filed to the police on this date reported unknown persons illegally entering a property located in a field in a Nicosia village, and stealing various electrical tools.

Police obtained testimony against the 41-year-old, on the basis of which a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him.

The two cases are under ongoing investigation.
