Paphos’ cultural scene welcomed a new art space this autumn as Psifida Art Gallery took its first steps into Cyprus’ art world. And its first solo art exhibition will continue to welcome visitors until October 31.

Located in Kato Paphos, Psifida was established as part of the vision of a team of young art enthusiasts to create a place where exceptional art can be introduced, displayed, appreciated and acquired. The current showcase hosts pop art artist Jamie Jones with his exhibition Mnimonikó. Colourful pieces, pop-culture icons and watercolours characterise this body of work.

Talking about Jones, the gallery said: “Jamie absorbed the artistic and illustrative pop culture of the 80s and early 90s, bingeing Saturday-morning cartoons, collecting comic books and being mesmerised by the pillars of hip-hop. Playful, bigger-than-life characters, bold neon colour palettes and pop art styles, Jamie works in multiple mediums including spray paint, oils and wood. Whilst always experimental, it is an expression of his inner child that is intended to evoke nostalgic emotions and reflection from his audience.

“In a successful 20-year career in the drinks industry,” they added, “art featured heavily in the countless competition drinks and cocktail menus he created around the world. Now, Jamie’s debut solo exhibition is held at Psifida Art Gallery in Paphos, Cyprus, where he and his art studio are based.”
