Police arrested two people on Monday, as part of an effort to stem the violence at football stadiums.

The first arrest concerns a 22-year-old man, found to be in possession of a smoke generator prior to the start of the Anorthosis-Apollon match at Antonis Papadopoulos stadium.

The second arrest concerns a 19-year-old who was arrested during a disturbance after the end of the match.

Police anti-riot teams intervened to restore order to protesting fans, who had gathered on the east side of the stadium.

Cases are expected to be filed against the two arrested men today at the Larnaca district court while investigations continue.
