Paphos police made four arrests on Thursday night after a failed robbery attempt led to the discovery of drugs and a suspicious amount of gold items within the suspect’s possession.

The incident broke out at about 8.30am when a 53-year-old woman noticed a man attempting to enter her house from the main entrance. She sounded the alarm and the suspect attempted to escape but a neighbour managed to detain him.

The suspect, a 26-year-old, informed the police of another two persons in a car nearby who had dropped him off at the location.

Police subsequently found them nearby in an agricultural area where their car had broken down. A third suspect had arrived at the scene in a second car to try and assist the first two.

Police detained them and later identified them as a 27-year-old woman and two men – aged 25 and 29. Police found a large amount of gold goods in the woman’s car, along with coins from various countries.

The 25-year-old was found to be in possession of 3.5 grammes of cocaine and a precision scale.
