Digital Art Festival this month takes creativity in new direction

artboardweb

Launched to expand the digital art scene in Cyprus, PIXEL Digital Art Days will host its first edition this month in Limassol. The dedicated digital art festival will transform Limassol’s Sousami bar into an immersive gallery space on December 9, 10 and 11.

The three-day event plays with the realities created by polar opposites in a conversation between the digital and analog and dystopias and utopias. And this, through a line-up of musical acts, digital art interventions, installations, talks and screenings.

Experimenting with technology to blur the lines between physical and digital realities, the exhibition opens the door to new digital dimensions, inviting the viewer into the metaphysical realm. Through a curated selection of installations, interventions and experiences, the audience explores the bipolarity of non-neutral.

Exhibited for the duration of the event, installations will be on display each day from 5pm onwards, featuring work by international artists, including Malaysian designer Jowin Foo and interactive media artist Alexandra Niaka.

Curated in collaboration with Animafest, a schedule of screenings further reflects the digital/analogue, utopia/dystopia concept. With films by award-winning Dutch animator and filmmaker ROSTO, as well as animations by New York-based artist, curator and educator Faiyaz Jafri. Cypriot artists represented include Loukis Menelaou, Marina Ierides (aka. Lamarina) and creative agency cloudy.works.

Meanwhile, merging music with digital art, Plasmatik x Angeriki will combine ethereal deep house and techno with a sequence of projected moving images; KALAQS x Cievil Momo present an audiovisual experience mixing electronic sounds, with post internet aesthetics. And finally, Costantinos Kyprianou and Styliana Apostolou will perform a mixed-media incorporation of dance and electronic music. DJ heroes Manuel Fischer, Matthias Millhoff and Patraulea will bring the beats for the three nights.

Exploring the evolution of art through technology, the event provides a platform for new mediums of creativity on the island. The aim is to further expand and upscale the standards of the local scene in Cyprus, while in parallel supporting local creatives and building an international network of collaboration.
