A 34-year-old man has been arrested on Friday as the second suspect in the Oroklini attempted murder, while a third person remains wanted for the case.

Police arrested the 34-year-old in the Famagusta district on Friday morning and are searching for additional evidence in various establishments connected with the suspect.

An arrest warrant has also been issued against a 35-year-old man who was reported missing from the British Bases.

Cypriot police and the British Bases are conducting joint searches since the morning in the government-controlled areas to locate the person, the Greek Cypriot police spokesman Christos Andreou told the Cyprus News Agency.

For the same case, a 31-year-old man was remanded for eight days on Thursday.

He admitted involvement in the attempted murder case, despite earlier telling investigators that he knows “nothing”.

Investigations started on Sunday, after gunshots were fired at a moving car with three passengers, two men aged 40 and 42 and a six-year-old boy who were returning home from their hunting trip around 5.30am.

The older man and the child were injured as a result of the attack and had to undergone surgery.

The 31-year-old had turned himself in to the central Larnaca police station on Wednesday night when he was arrested. Police had earlier published two photos and the personal details of the suspect on their official website after identifying him through DNA from evidence collected at the crime scene.

On Wednesday afternoon, officers carried out a search at his residence and place of work. They found various pieces of evidence which were taken for further examination.

Meanwhile, a firearm, gloves and a hood were found close to the scene which were examined for DNA traces.

Police said the gun found was reported stolen from a reservist’s house between August 13 and 17 along with 200 bullets.

It was located about 200 metres form the scene, while the hood was found about 120 metres from the scene. A sports shoe was also found about 30 metres from where the casings were located.
