A 35-year-old man who crashed into a car that led to the death of a 62-year-old woman, did not respond to the charges read out against him at Limassol district court on Tuesday.

The court ordered for his remand until December 19, when he will be called to plead on charges in connection to reckless driving, drunk driving, speeding and violating traffic lights.

The accident, which happened on December 7 in Limassol, led to the death of 62-year-old Tyorjanne Tofei.

The 35-year-old ran a red light and crashed into her car as she attempted to turn onto the road he was driving on.

The impact left Tofei trapped in the car wreck and was only extracted after members of the fire service reached the scene. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Limassol general hospital.

Officers at the scene in Germasogia on Vasileos Georgiou road found the 35-year-old was over the alcohol limit. He was driving with a 27-year-old passenger who was lightly injured.
