According to a police statement, on Tuesday night on Mesogi Avenue, traffic police tried to stop a vehicle which the system showed as uninsured and immobilised, with fines pending against the owner.

The driver did not stop at the police signal and sped up.

Police pursued the driver who continued driving recklessly, running red lights and overtaking other vehicles, endangering lives and property.

Police managed to halt the driver in the Anavargos area and he was identified as a 26-year-old resident of Paphos.

Police arrested the man and he was taken into custody for the various offences committed and for the outstanding fines.
