The increase in rate of admissions for viral infections in public hospitals observed recently continues, spokesman for the state health services (Okypy), Charalambos Charilaou, told CNA on Tuesday.

In particular increased occupancy in all paediatric clinics has been observed, Charilaou said, and increased admissions of children with bronchiolitis or pneumonia, with half of the admissions in the past month being due to RSV, a respiratory infection.

Many people suffering from common colds and other viral infections are also ending up in public hospital for treatment, Charilaou added.

In relation to Covid-19, Charilaou said that the number of patients was stable at 74 while seven are currently hospitalised in ICU.
