A 41-year-old Famagusta resident who cut off the ear of his roommate was remanded for four days on Monday.

The suspect was arrested late on Sunday in connection with the assault of a 40-year-old man in Ormidia.

Earlier, at around 11.30pm, police had received information about an injured person at Demokratias street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim with a serious injury to his right ear.

Police said it appears the man was assaulted by his roommate who was wielding a knife. He was transferred to Famagusta general hospital where he underwent an operation. His condition is listed as stable and not life threatening.

Officers from the Famagusta CID found the culprit drunk later that night. On Monday morning, he was brought before Famagusta district court in Paralimni.
