Limassol police on Sunday night arrested two suspects for possession of illegal cannabis weighing over six kilos. They were remanded for eight days on Monday.

According to a police statement, members of the drug squad saw the suspects’ vehicle at around 8:30pm on the old Larnaca-Limassol road.

Police attempted to stop the car but the driver tried to flee, colliding with two official vehicles in the process, before coming to a halt.

During the subsequent check, police determined that the driver was a 23-year-old man from Limassol and a search revealed six airtight packages containing cannabis weighing a total of 6.48kg.

The man was arrested on the spot and police proceeded with a search of the suspect’s home.

During the investigation, four more plastic packages containing a total of 65g of cannabis and a precision scale were found in the bedroom of the suspect’s roommate, aged 22.

The 22-year-old was also called to the police station and both suspects were issued with court warrants and taken into custody.

Limassol police are continuing investigations.
