The autopsy on the two-month infant whose mother found it dead in the crib at their home in Larnaca over the weekend was inconclusive, police said on Monday.

State examiner Angeliki Papetta carried out the autopsy, however the cause of death was not established, Larnaca police spokesman Charis Hadjiyiasemi told the Cyprus News Agency.

Additional samples were taken to be sent to the institute of genetics and neurology (Cing) for specialised tests, he added.

The officer said the newborn was found unconscious around 6.30am on Sunday.

The infant had vomit in the mouth area and was immediately rushed to the hospital. There, doctors pronounced the baby dead on arrival.
