Thirteen cases of domestic violence in Paphos were dealt with by the family violence unit in April, police said on Friday.

According to Paphos police spokesman and head of CID Michalis Nicolaou, seven people were arrested in 13 investigated cases.

In statements to the Cyprus News Agency, Nicolaou said all the cases were registered before the district court and warrants were issued against six people.

Nicolaou added that the domestic violence unit receives complaints from victims but also via mail from various government departments or other agencies.

Police coordination on the issue is being emphasised, Nicolaou said, as is cooperation with the social welfare services and hospitals, so that victims can receive the care and treatment they need.
