Cyprus will host the 60th meeting of the International Olive Council (IOC) advisory committee on Thursday, the agriculture ministry said on Wednesday.

The committee consists of non-governmental bodies representing all branches of the olive and olive oil industry, such as producers, processors, traders and consumers.

The committee, which meets twice yearly, exists as a forum for member countries’ business leaders to network and share practical knowledge, as well as to help the IOC determine effective solutions to problems faced by the olive and olive products sector.

Sixty-five members from various countries will participate in the first session of 2023, which the ministry of agriculture requested to host in consultation with the embassy of the Republic in Spain.

On Friday, members of the committee will go on a technical tour of olive production on the island planned jointly by the department of agriculture and the deputy ministry of tourism.
