Illegal migrants arrested for string of offences

Paphos police arrested two suspects on Monday for cases of burglary, theft, traffic violations, use of illegal drugs and illegal stay in the Republic.

According to the police spokesman, Nikos Tsapis, police stopped a vehicle around 7pm driven by a 31-year-old driver with a 27-year-old passenger.

During the check police established that the 27-year-old was an illegal resident. It was found that the driver did not have a licence, the vehicle was not covered by insurance, and it was declared immobilised. In a drug test carried out on the driver, he was found positive.

The 27-year-old had two outstanding arrest warrants against him for investigated cases of theft and burglary of electrical items from shops in Limassol.

In the vehicle, police found an electric screwdriver for the possession of which the two suspects did not provide adequate explanation, and which is suspected to be among the stolen items from Limassol.

The two men were arrested and taken into custody while investigations continue.
