Axiothea is ready to welcome back its loyal audience with a rich programme of artistic events bringing together places, cities and cultures. The festival will enable lovers of quality music and theatre to travel together with the participating groups to the special universe of the theatre of the absurd, the world of opera, the sounds and rhythms of the Iberian Peninsula, the different eras of jazz and the charming mosaic of multicultural Alexandria of the 19th century.
Festival-goers this June and July will experience unique events and see up close renowned artists and individuals, as well as young charismatic creators from Cyprus and the international art scene. In the courtyard of the Nicosia mansion, musicians, composers, actors, directors, performers, and amazing masters will present their deep and long-standing conversation with tradition – or its bold and subversive approach –they will enchant audiences and invite them to embrace the unknown, to experience the thrill of discovery and to be at the cutting edge of the artistic avant-garde.
This year’s festival will also feature a series of workshops designed to appeal to artists, as well as those with a keen interest in the arts and creative expression. Internationally-renowned artists will present to a limited number of participants, the keys to their art and technique and offer their knowledge of the tradition they represent. The goal is for these workshops to form the framework of osmosis where creative relationships will develop between artists from Cyprus and abroad, which will expand into fruitful collaborations beyond the festival.
Just like every other year, Part A of the festival will run in June and July and performances have already begun. Following the opening performance by the Pancyprian Lyceum of Larnaca which presented Eugène Ionesco’s The Chairs a further seven evenings at Axiothea Mansion will be held before the July programme of the festival begins, enriching the cultural summer agenda of the capital city.
