Brazen robbery attempt yields nothing

robbery attempt

A brazen attempted robbery took place in Kissonerga in the early hours of Tuesday as a van rammed into a shop, but the attacker left empty handed.

Police detailed that at 4:20am a van reversed at speed into a minimarket, smashing through the doors of the building – causing thousands of euros in damages.

CCTV footage then showed the perpetrator rushing out of the van and into the shop, over to the cash register. The attacker fled the scene empty handed, however, as the till was empty.

The suspect is then shown waiting for a getaway vehicle to arrive, which in turn picks up the attacker and speeds off with two others in the car.

Such tactics – ramming vehicles into shopfronts – have proved popular overseas, with reports of burglars staking out jewellery shops and then bursting open the doors with vans or pick-up trucks.
