Cyprus tourism looking to “rapidly developing” scuba diving market

The general assembly of the European Underwater Federation (EUF) will take place in Cyprus between June 17 and June 19, according to a statement released this week.

The event is being organised by the Cyprus Dive Centres Association, a member of EUF and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE).

According to an announcement by KEVE, the assembly will be attended by 20 representatives from various European countries, including Austria, Finland, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Apart from discussing internal organisational matters, the assembly will address important topics such as the safety of scuba diving activities and the revision of industry standards.

Moreover, the announcement noted that “the significance of the event for Cyprus is substantial, both in terms of the representation of participating countries and the agenda to be discussed”.

“Scuba diving tourism is a rapidly developing sector of alternative tourism that is compatible with the principles of sustainability and sustainable development,” the chamber said.

“It indirectly protects both the environment and biodiversity,” the announcement concluded.

According to some estimates, the global diving equipment market size grew from $3.93 billion in 2022 to $4.26 billion in 2023 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.4 per cent.

At the same time,  according to the same estimates, the global diving tourism market was valued at $3.93 billion in 2022.

In addition, the diving tourism market size is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.2 per cent to reach a valuation of $5.2 billion by the end of 2028, between 2023-2028.
