Discussions will continue on Friday after the finance ministry and representatives of low wage civil servants held a “constructive meeting” on Thursday with the aim of finalising an agreement over pay.

In a joint statement following the meeting, trade unions Pasydy, Sek, and Peo said it had been agreed that discussions would continue on Friday with the aim of reaching an agreement on the matter.

They added that they hope such an agreement can be signed early enough that its provisions be incorporated into the 2024 state budget.

Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) “a constructive discussion took place, both sides set out their positions”.

She added that the finance ministry will send a proposal to trade unions and the process will continue.
