The defence ministry on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding with the American University of Cyprus.
At the signing ceremony, ministry undersecretary Andreas Louka described the memorandum as “an important step towards achieving the ministry’s goal of cooperation with the academic community.”
Through the memorandum, he said “the ministry and the American University of Cyprus are paving the way for cooperation in areas of common interest, with the aim of promoting joint educational and other programmes to address various issues.”
He said the areas of cooperation will include joint participation in research projects, exchanges of information and data, cooperation regarding matters of education and training, and a development of “technological applications of common interest”.
With one memorandum of understanding having already been signed, he said the ministry “is focusing its efforts on creating a network of educational institutions specialising in areas of common interest.”
“Our goal is to effectively communicate our country’s defence and foreign policy to the academic community through national and international educational activities,” he said.
He added, “I am confident that this event marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership.”
