Before the year ends, there is a plethora of exhibitions to enjoy all around the island. Group showcases, Christmas-centered and solo exhibitions are ongoing in the last two weeks of the year, further enriching December’s packed agenda.

In Limassol, a charity photography exhibition titled Cyprus Hidden Gems is on at the University of Limassol until Friday. Photographer Stavros Georgiou collaborates with the university for this exhibition, with the aim to raise funds to support the Little Heroes charity foundation which assists families with children battling cancer. The exhibition showcases the island’s secret corners with tales of culture, history and natural beauty.

An exhibition has also just opened in Lefkara featuring Andrea Paraskeva’s watercolours of birds, which will remain open at the Lefkara Handicraft Centre until January 20.

The exhibitions extend to Paphos as well, with two new ones this week. Psifida Art Gallery presents Jamie Jones’ Misled Youth exhibition at CAP St George Hotel & Resort which intertwines the classic charm of iconic cherub imagery with portraits of solemn yet resilient young figures adorned as iconic superheroes. Through colourful pop culture elements, Misled Youth depicts the search for authenticity above the noise and explores the fragility and resilience of youth.

On Wednesday, Ekaterina Shcherbakova, an artist in residence at Kimonos Art Center, will present her latest body of work at Rally Space. Titled ‘to cover; – to impregnate’ explores the notion of changing your name.

“This metamorphic practice has been used in different cultures throughout history. One would change name in order to cheat their fate: recover from illness, escape the curse or simply be reborn metaphorically and live a better life. In Cyprus, where name changing is reduced to a plain bureaucratic gesture, this practice acquires an augmented dimension.” The exhibition runs from Wednesday to Saturday and includes sculptures and pictorial works as well as a performance on the opening night.

The capital city has also welcomed new art showcases recently. Among them are two festive group shows currently on, one at isnotgallery and one at Alpha CK Gallery. The Future is Now exhibition at isnotgallery is a Christmas exhibition showcasing the works of eight artists ranging from contemporary paintings, sculptures and ceramics. The Holiday Cheer fine art exhibition at Alpha CK Gallery showcases the creations of over a dozen artists, running until the last day of the year.
