National investment promotion agency Invest Cyprus on Friday announced that it has successfully secured the directorship for the Eastern Europe region of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA).

The official announcement of the decision was made during the 27th World Investment Conference held at the India International Convention and Expo Center in New Delhi from December 11-14, 2023.

The agency explained that Invest Cyprus, represented by CEO Marios Tannousis, emerged successfully from the shortlisting process, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to advancing the global agenda of sustainable development through strategic foreign direct investment (FDI) initiatives.

The World Investment Conference, hosted by WAIPA, is a prestigious platform that brings together government officials, business leaders, and high-level representatives from investment promotion agencies (IPAs) worldwide.

This year’s conference focused on the theme “Empowering Investors: IPAs Pioneering Future Growth” and provided a unique opportunity for Invest Cyprus to showcase its dedication to fostering sustainable growth in the Eastern Europe region.

Invest Cyprus CEO Marios Tannousis, who played a pivotal role in advocating for greater unity among European investment promotion agencies on sustainability goals, expressed gratitude for the support received during the conference.

“We believe in the power of collaboration to drive sustainable development. Securing the directorship for the Eastern Europe region allows us to contribute actively to the global dialogue on responsible and impactful foreign direct investment,” Tannousis stated.

What is more, the announcement explained that the role of Invest Cyprus as the WAIPA regional steering committee director will involve leading and coordinating efforts to attract foreign investments to Eastern Europe while aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

“This appointment reaffirms Invest Cyprus’ position as a key player in the international investment landscape,” the agency said.

Moreover, Invest Cyprus stated that it looks forward to leveraging this influential position to promote knowledge exchange, share best practices, and foster collaboration among international investment agencies.

“The organisation remains committed to ensuring that foreign direct investment contributes not only to economic growth but also to addressing global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and environmental protection,” Invest Cyprus said in its statement.

“The WAIPA regional steering committee directorship is a testament to Invest Cyprus’ dedication to shaping a future where sustainable development and responsible investment go hand in hand,” the agency concluded.
