Cyprus University of Technology (Tepak) rector Panayiotis Zaphiris this week announced the successful completion of the study outlining the potential establishment of a School of Marine Sciences, Technology, and Sustainable Development in Larnaca.

Zaphiris, using the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, emphasised the significance of this ambitious initiative, highlighting that it serves two main purposes.

He noted that this project will “not only boost academic capabilities in these fields, but it will also contribute to the advancement of marine sciences and sustainable development”.

Furthermore, he also acknowledged the concerted efforts of the university to advance this initiative.

“Responding to the call of President Nicos Christodoulides, as well as the Ministries of Education and Finance, we have diligently worked on this comprehensive proposal over the past two months,” Zaphiris said.

He added that the proposal will soon be presented to the relevant university bodies in the coming weeks.

Moreover, expressing gratitude, Zaphiris extended his appreciation to all contributors, including members of his office, the research team, and collaborators both within and outside the university.

Finally, he acknowledged their valuable contributions, underlining their help in boosting the quality of the proposal through their collective efforts.
