The Paphos District Court on Sunday remanded two people in police custody for two days as they are suspected of involvement in a case of burglary and theft under investigation.

According to police spokesman Michalis Nikolaou, on Saturday night CID officers following a tip off went to the scene and located one suspect who was exiting a vehicle. He was allegedly carrying a handbag, which he deposited on the ground and then got back into the car.

Police stopped the car and identified the 57-year-old driver and 29-year-old passenger as permanent residents of the island.

Police subsequently searched the vehicle and found various items, including burglary tools and a prohibited knife by the driver’s seat.

Officers arrested the pair.

Police also searched the bag which was found to contain other burglary tools and property suspected to be stolen.
