Firefighters’ association Sypyk on Friday demanded the fire brigade pay its frontline employees an extra allowance due to the dangerous nature of their job.
Sypyk chairman said the fire brigade should “recognise” that “the profession is dangerous and unhealthy” and should thus grant workers the extra allowance.
Dr Pavlos Iosifides, who had carried out a study into the matter in collaboration with Sypyk, said the results of his study allowed him to reach the conclusion “very clearly and with certainty that firefighters’ profession is not only dangerous, but also unhealthy.”
