A fun day at the gallery awaits children aged five to seven as another creative workshop takes place at AG Leventis Gallery. Titled Myself and Others, the event will embody various artistic and educational techniques to guide young visitors through philosophical concepts that touch on emotional wellbeing.
“Children care about what others think,” say organisers. “They can get annoyed, upset and stressed if someone makes a negative comment about them. Some children might be able to ignore these comments and not let them get to them that much. Some children, however, might not be able to deal with these emotions at all. This can cause further stress and anxiety, which can have an impact on their ability to manage their feelings, emotions and the choices they make.”
With this in mind, Philosophy for Children trained educators Marina and Rebecca Katsaris will lead the workshop on April 13, exploring ideas creatively on how children can cultivate resilience and emotional flexibility.
The workshop, in English, will draw inspiration from two very special paintings in the AG Leventis Collection: Daughters of God by Loukia Nicolaides-Vassiliou and Portrait of a Woman by Thalia Flora-Karavia and will combine the principles of Philosophy for Children: storytelling, drama techniques, music and visual arts.
More specifically, through role play children will explore philosophical concepts in a creative and interactive way that promotes the unfolding of feelings and emotional concerns. During this process, they will have the opportunity to express themselves through self-awareness games, artistic creation, theatrical manners of expression, music and movement exercises.
