Police arrest attempted murder suspect from nightclub fight

On Wednesday, authorities announced the arrest of a 29-year-old man suspected of attempted murder in Nicosia last year, while a manhunt for a second suspect continues.

The 29-year-old was apprehended on a road in the Famagusta district on Monday after being stopped by members of the drug squad, Ykan, for a routine check. Upon conducting checks, police discovered an outstanding arrest warrant against the individual for attempted murder.

He was promptly arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

The attempted murder occurred on January 29, 2023, at a club in Nicosia.

According to police reports, at around 3 am that night, a 24-year-old man engaged in a fight with another clubgoer, who then brandished a knife and stabbed the 24-year-old in the stomach.

After the stabbing ,a 38-year-old security guard intervened to stop the fight and was stabbed in the chest by the assailant. The perpetrator then fled the scene.

Another suspect, a 30-year-old individual believed to be involved in the incident, remains at large, as police continue their search.
