Customs seized hundreds of cigarette cartons and tobacco from two Turkish Cypriots attempting to go to London from Larnaca, it emerged on Monday.

During checks on their four suitcases on August 31, customs officers found 244 cartons of cigarettes with 200 cigarettes each in them.

Customs also seized 6kg and 200g of loose tobacco, all which did not have warning labels in Greek and Turkish or safety symbols.

All the items were undeclared, and the pair were arrested and taken to Larnaca District Court on September 1, where they were remanded for three days.

They will appear in court on September 4 for their hearing to begin.
