Two-time Fifa world footballer of the year Ronaldinho landed at northern Cyprus’ Ercan (Tymbou) airport on Thursday night.
Ronaldinho was pictured making his way through the airport’s arrivals hall by local media, having received a bouquet of flowers when he stepped off his inbound flight.
He is in the north to attend an award ceremony named the International Summit Awards, which have been organised by Turkish media group Pars International and will take place at a hotel in the village of Ayios Epiktitos.
Now 44 years old, Ronaldinho had a glittering football career, winning the Fifa World Cup in 2002 and the Uefa Champions League in 2006, among a litany of other trophies for the Brazilian national team, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and other clubs.
He has faced some legal troubles since retiring from the game in 2015, having been arrested and jailed in Paraguay after trying to enter the country on a counterfeit passport.
