A 43-year-old man in Limassol died early on Sunday morning while driving away from the general hospital where he presented with chest pain.
Alkis Michail crashed into a parked vehicle at around 5:30am in the Ayia Fylaxeos area.
Police are investigating whether he died from the accident or from other causes that prompted the crash. He leaves behind two children.
Michail, from the Trachoni area, had gone to Limassol general hospital in the early hours of the morning reporting chest pain.
For reasons not yet clear, he drove away after registering and while driving lost control of the vehicle. He drove into the pavement and crashed into a vehicle parked outside a store.
Police speculate he may have been driving to a private clinic.
State health services (Okypy) spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said an investigation had been ordered into the matter.
Michail left the waiting area by himself without informing anyone and without signing paperwork saying he was leaving of his own free will, according to Charilaou.
